Gasoline prices at two major retailers in Penticton shot up to hair-raising levels Wednesday morning.
The Shell gas station on Fairview Road posted 158.9 cents a litre, and so did the Petro Canada at Eckhardt Street and Westminster Avenue on May 1.

But by the afternoon, both retailers were down to 134.9 cents a litre.

Other retailers’ prices, such as Super Save, Mobil, the Petro-Canada near Skaha Lake and Co-op had prices at 130.9, 131.9 and 131.9 cents respectively.

The jump comes just as Premier John Horgan asked Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to help get more fuel to the province to bring down the record breaking gas prices.
In the South Okanagan, Princeton has the highest gas prices with GasBuddy recording the lowest price to be 148.9 to 149.9 cents. The lowest prices in Keremeos range from 135.9 and 137.9.
Summerland is posting prices between 137.9 and 142.9 cents, according the GasBuddy.
In Kelowna, the lowest gas prices are between 133.9 and 141.9, while the lowest rate in Vernon is 140.9 cents.
