Penticton RCMP executed a search warrant at the Green Essence marijuana dispensary in Penticton Thursday.

An investigation confirmed the storefront did not have a licence to sell marijuana, and that they were selling the drug to anyone, whether they had a medical licence or not according to the RCMP.

Over the past few months, the RCMP say they have given the business owner numerous warnings to cease selling the drug.

During the raid, 15 pounds of bud marijuana was seized, which the RCMP say was being openly sold to anyone off the street. Numerous kinds of edibles, such as cookies and honey, along with oils and waxes, were also seized. Many of these packaged products were infused with potent amounts of THC, namely “Shatter.”

“Even if marijuana was legal today, the kinds of THC-infused products they were openly selling would not be legal even in that framework,” said Const. James Grandy.

Staff and patrons who were found inside the establishment were identified, and released pending further investigation. Charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) are being considered.

Until Oct. 17, marijuana remains a controlled drug under the CDSA, which the RCMP has a duty to enforce.
