All group fitness activities in Penticton are being suspended following direction from provincial health officials.
These activities will remain suspended until new guidance for how to safely operate them is developed.
The temporary suspension is effective immediately. Participants registered in affected programs will be contacted, according to a news release from the City of Penticton.
However, registered sports activities such as 4-on-4 hockey, pickleball and badminton are permitted to continue operating under viaSport’s Return to Sport Phase 3 guidance.
The health orders are currently being reviewed in consultation with public health officials and updated guidelines are expected soon.
Individual activity reservations including public skating, pool and fitness room reservations are also still permitted to operate under the current province-wide restrictions.
Masks are now required when visiting recreation facilities.
“The recreation department continues to diligently monitor all restrictions and sector guidelines to ensure that our COVID-19 safety plans are in compliance with orders and best practices,” reads a statement from the city.
