Several residents on Lowe Drive and Ritchie Drive are in desperate need of help from rising waters around their home, the Keremeos fire chief said.

Jordy Bosscha, of the Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department, said water is spilling from Barcello and Manuel Creek and rushing over some homes’ driveways and pooling in other yards.

“People are really in need of help. There’s a couple here trying to sandbag, but they’re kind of fighting a losing battle, right now,” he said.

Bosscha and other members of the fire department have been aiding residents trying to give advice and help where they can since 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Saturday evening they were going door-to-door warning residents they need to keep an eye on the water and the erosion that is going on in their driveways.

He wasn’t sure if any major damage had been done to driveways.

“They’re underwater right now, so I don’t know,” he said. “But I’m going to guess with how much water is coming through there has been.”

Bosscha said at this point there are no alert orders or evacuation orders in place for the area in Cawston.

Bosscha said residents will need help for the next few days. As of 7 p.m. Saturday evening people were working on sandbagging a property on Ritchie Drive. More people are needed.
