It's going to get much bumpier than this later on today.

You’ll want to hold onto your hat this afternoon and evening.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Penticton and Kelowna warning of wind gusts up to 50 kilometres per hour today.

It said a cold front is on its way to the Southern Interior and a “sudden shift and increase in winds” is expected ahead of it.

Given the recent benign weather and the sunny outlook, the increase in winds may come as a surprise to boaters and campers on or near the many lakes of the Southern Interior,” the statement said.

The front is expected to have exited the province by Saturday morning and cooler air behind should bring daytime high temperatures up to 10 C cooler than in recent days.
