An impaired driver caused a dangerous collision on Highway 1 between Revelstoke and Golden on May 25.

According to the Revelstoke RCMP, police were responding to reports of a small white car driving erratically just before 4 p.m. on Thursday (May 25) when they were advised that the same car was involved in a collision on Highway 1 near Canyon Hot Springs.

When they arrived on scene, police found that the white car had collided with a transport truck. The white car was westbound when it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, striking the commercial vehicle.

The driver of the car, a 49-year-old man, was determined to be impaired and subsequently detained for impaired driving causing bodily harm. The man was transported to the hospital in an ambulance and was later released from police custody.

The driver of the transport truck was also taken to the hospital with undetermined injuries.

“Drivers who choose to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol place the lives of innocent people at risk on our roadways,” said Sgt. Chris Dodds of the Revelstoke RCMP.

Police are investigating the situation.

Anyone with further information or dash cam video of the driving behaviour of the suspect is urged to contact the Revelstoke RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
