Gordon Joyner displays the Extra ticket that made him $500

A chief financial officer from Kaleden now has an extra half-million dollars to manage.

Gordon Joyner, who purchased a quick pick Lotto Max ticket at the Kaleden Petro Canada on Highway 97 (just south of Penticton), matched four out of four numbers on the Jan. 28 Extra draw to earn the game’s top prize of $500,000.

“I checked my ticket on BCLC.com,” said Joyner.

“I was so excited when I saw that I’d won, but I didn’t tell my wife. I wanted to be sure, so I took the ticket back to where I’d bought it to have it validated. I knew for sure when I saw the clerk get excited.”

Needless to say the 60-year-old man was not expecting the news.

“I showed my wife the ticket and at first she thought it was a joke,” said Joyner. “She’s obviously very happy now that it’s sunk in.”

The couple hasn’t decided what to do with their winnings yet, although they say paying off their mortgage is “high on the list.”
