The first months of 2022 have been a difficult time for police officers in Keremeos, said Supt. Brian Hunter of the RCMP.
In April, an RCMP office stationed in the small community was stabbed while attending a mental health call. While the officer survived the attack, the incident has shaken the community.

“It’s been a challenging time in Keremeos,” Hunter said. “It’s definitely a long road to recovery.”
Crime statistics in the community are slightly higher in the first quarter of 2022 as compared with the same period in 2021, according to figures from the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment’s quarterly report.
Police received 290 calls for service, up from 286 in the same period of 2021.
The number of violent crime incidents declined from 23 in the first quarter of 2021 to 19 in the same period in 2022.
Mischief to property calls increased from three cases in the first three months of 2021 to eight cases in the same period in 2022. Thefts from vehicles dropped, with four incidents in the first quarter of this year, compared with eight in the same period of 2021.
There were 41 property crimes in the first three months of 2022, compared with 42 in the same time period in 2021.
Cpl. Chad Parsons of the Keremeos RCMP detachment said police are dealing with one prolific offender in the area at present.
Other communities, such as Penticton, are dealing with more prolific offenders.
