A call about a suspicious vehicle turned into rollover and impaired charges being laid against a 19-year-old Keremeos woman.

Cpl. Brian Evans of the Keremeos detachment said during the evening on Sun., July 1 the detachment received a call from Princeton RCMP a vehicle might be headed to the area that was involved in some suspicious activity.

A Keremeos officer caught up with the Chevy Sonic on Highway 3 where it was pulled over and its five occupants were outside.

Upon talking to the group, it was found that one of the males in the group was breaching a recognizance order. While dealing with the 17-year-old youth, a 19-year-old female and two other passengers jumped in the car and sped away.

About 30 seconds later the driver lost control of the vehicle, rolling it over twice, along the side of the highway just outside of Keremeos.

“Our officer immediately attended and placed her under arrest and charged her with impaired driving,” Evans said. “Thankfully there was just minor injuries, no one was seriously hurt but the fire department did have to attend as well.”

That wasn’t the first impaired charge of the long weekend.

On Saturday night just after midnight a 26-year-old local man was charged with impaired driving.

Evans said a bit of an incident occurred at the grad party and the man decided to leave the party by tractor.

He received a 90-day prohibition from driving.

“It is concerning that people still choose to drink and drive when there’s so many other options and the consequences can be grave. And also as passengers that put choose to go into a vehicle with someone that has been drinking you put yourself at risk for personal harm or death when you get in that vehicle with a drunk driver.”
