An early-morning water main break near Penticton’s Brantford Avenue is now repaired but more than 200 homes south of Skaha Lake Marina remain on boil water notice.

Although the city says the system failure at Lakeside Road and Brantford Avenue is fixed, as of Wednesday afternoon on Nov. 30, properties on six different roads may still be impacted by a lack of water pressure.

Residents on the following roads may be affected and are asked to boil their water for one minute before drinking:

• Lakeside Road

• Brantford Avenue

• Finnerty Road

• Derenzy Place

• Lakeside Court

• Smythe Drive

“Further sampling and testing is currently being conducted in the system,” the city said in a notice. “Crews are aware of the situation and are working to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.”

A lack of water pressure can lead to contaminants entering the system and the city adds that residents on the select roads must bring their water to a “rapid, rolling boil” before using for drinking, making infant formula and juices, cooking, brushing teeth, washing raw foods and making ice.

Those with home filter systems may still need to boil their water before using it, depending on the particular threat to their supply.

The notice is used when the public health threat is significant enough that it can be effectively addressed by boiling water.

When the City of Penticton and Interior Health deems the water safe to drink, the notice will be lifted.
