More than 1,000 people were vaccinated in Summerland over the last week according to vaccination numbers released by Interior Health on May 19.
According to the most recent information, in the Summerland local health area Interior Health has distributed 6,475 first doses so far.
That’s 1,159 doses over the last week, as the community approaches 50 per cent of the area’s 13,394 residents who have been vaccinated.
Penticton has already surpassed 50 per cent, with 28,302 first doses distributed as of May 19 to the region’s 46,664 residents.
Those numbers do not include vaccinations distributed through pharmacies or through the First Nation Health Authority.
In the Similkameen Valley, out of 5,806 residents of the Keremeos local health area 2,588 have received first doses, and in the Princeton local health area, 1,999 out of 6,088 have been vaccinated so far.
The South Okanagan local health area has a population of 21,956, and includes Oliver, Osoyoos and Okanagan Falls in its territory.Oliver has received 5,771 first doses that have been distributed by IH, and the Osoyoos 3,819.
More than half of all 93,908 residents in the South Okanagan Similkameen’s local health areas have now had their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 48,894 distributed by Interior Health.
On Tuesday, May 18 Interior Health reported 69 new COVID-19 cases across the region, with 476 total active. The province as a whole recorded 411, for the fifth straight day under 500 new cases.

Additionally, adults over 30 years old can choose to be vaccinated at a local pharmacy. Participating pharmacies are listed on the BC Pharmacy Association website with details describing how to book through them directly. You have to register with each individual pharmacy.
