A 64-year-old Osoyoos man is dead after swerving to avoid a deer on his motorcycle and striking a utility pole in Oliver.

Oliver RCMP attended the 7600 block of Highway 97 in Oliver at 3 p.m. Tuesday and a lone witness on the scene told police that the motorcyclist went off the road trying to avoid a deer and struck a utility pole.

The man was conscious on the scene and treated by BC Ambulance, he died later in the evening after being sent to the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver for further treatment of his injuries.

South Okanagan Traffic Services are saying that speed and alcohol are not factors, and they are investigating the matter with the BC Coroners Service with no further details to be released.
