Training and roll out of the Community Active Support Table (CAST) initiative took place this week.

From Aug. 21 to 23 representatives from several community organizations took part in the process in conjunction with the Penticton/South Okanagan RCMP detachment and the City of Penticton.

The goal of CAST is a pro-active, multi-agency approach to identifying risks in the community before they occur, according to Const. James Grandy of Penticton RCMP.

He added the initiative is a proven intervention model that works quickly to assist those who are at imminent risk of harm from victimization or criminality.

On Aug. 23 the first multi-agency meeting took place between all participants.

“CAST is going to be a tremendous tool used by community organizations who all have a vested interest in providing excellent service to those needing the most support in our community,” said Grandy. “Success going forward hinges on all local human service agencies together, in one place, working collaboratively toward a common goal.”
