A five-day-old baby was found in a Penticton drug house that was raided Thursday by police.
RCMP Drug Task Force leader Cpl. Brad Myhre said in a press release the newborn was found “in close proximity to drugs and drug paraphernalia” at the home on the 700 block of Toronto Avenue.
The baby’s mother was not present and the Ministry of Children and Family Development was notified, said Myhre.
Police also raided a motel room on Lakeshore Drive and detained occupants of three separate vehicles as part of the larger drug sweep.
A total of 11 people were arrested, although just five were charged with offences, including possession of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking, possession of prohibited weapons and obstruction of police officers.
Myhre said one of the men taken to jail had warrants for his arrest in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, all under different names.
