A dangerous incident involving some local youths has sparked a reminder of the importance of safety from local police.

According to the Revelstoke RCMP, on Friday (May 19) evening, a member of BC Emergency Health Services contacted police to advise them of an ATV rollover near Revelstoke on ‘the flats’. Several local youths were gathered for a camp-out when the incident happened.

When police arrived, they discovered that two youths had suffered injuries from the ATV rollover, and they were transported to Queen Victoria Hospital.

Police determined that neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, and the male driver sustained a head injury and has since been transferred to the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops in ‘serious but stable condition’.

The female passenger has since been released from hospital with minor injuries.

Sgt. Chris Dodds of the Revelstoke RCMP stressed the importance of ‘wearing an approved helmet when operating off-road vehicles, even at low speed’.

The RCMP has not released the names of the two individuals involved in the incident.
