Two Conservation officers rescued an elk in distress this past weekend.

The elk had somehow become severely tangled in wildlife high fencing in the South Okanagan.

A witnesses called the Report All Poachers and Polluters line to let Conservation know an animal needed their help.

Conservation officer’s Cox and Stern contacted a Penticton Natural Resource Officer for assistance and tracked down the elk.

Thanks to the quick work of the officers the animal was immobilized, rescued and released back into the wild with no injuries.

Following this incident the Conservation Office is reminding residents that while wildlife high fencing is a good tool to keep animals off of property and gardens, it’s important to inspect the fencing to make sure there is no access or entry areas wildlife could get caught in.
