OHA female prep ends season on good note

OHA female prep hockey program plays best hockey in JWHL playoffs

The Okanagan Hockey Academy female prep team played its best hockey of the season in the Junior Women's Hockey League playoffs.

OHA coach Jim Fetter watched his team play their most consistent game and lost in the B final to the Washington Pride 3-1. Cyan Roepcke scored for the OHA and Morgan Skinner made 35 saves.

"We definitely finished on a high," said Fetter, whose team finished ninth in the JWHL and defeated the Pacific Steelers 2-0 in a buy in game to become the eighth seed for the playoffs.

The OHA faced Warner School and lost 2-1 in a shootout. Roepcke scored as she was set up by Alexis Harle and Chloe Cook. In that match the OHA led for most of the game until Warner tied it in the third period. The OHA then faced Balmoral Hall in the B semifinal and won 3-1 on goals by Alyssa MacMillan, Miranda Gaudet and Hannah Clayton-Carrol.

Captain Micah Hart was named the JWHL's best defenceman, which Fetter said was well-deserved.

"She had a great season," said Fetter, of Hart, who played for Canada under-18 nationally and represented Team Alberta at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George. "She is a great captain and great leader. We are very young. I thought she did a great job bringing those young players together.

Hart, who finished with a goal and nine points in 24 games this season, is attending Cornell University in Ithaca, NY next fall. Also heading off to university is Emma Keenan with the Clarkson Golden Knights in Potsdam, NY.
