An inmate has filed a second lawsuit against the Okanagan Correcitonal Centre, this time claiming faulty sprinklers destroyed irreplaceable photos of deceased friends.
Boucher’s lawsuit, dated June 19, is seeking $25,000 from the Province of B.C. claiming sprinkers “went off unexpectedly, destroying all of my belongings” on May 13. Some of those items, Boucher claimed, can’t be replaced, including “photos of my dead friends and letters (which) mean the world to me, lost due to the negligence of the centre.”

Boucher, who was in administrative segregation, also often referred to as solitary confinement, at the time of the alleged incident, claimed the jail lacked due diligence and proper maintenance.
Alex Boucher filed his first lawsuit against the jail in March this year, claiming staff had failed to prevent an assault against him in December.
In that incident, he claimed OCC staff were aware of threats against him and had “ample time to put the proper policies/procedures (in place) to prevent this assault.”

Boucher is among a chorus of inmates who have filed lawsuits against the Okanagan Correctional Centre, totalling at least eight legal suits now filed against the jail.
