Okanagan-Shuswap weather: The sun is on its way

Environment Canada is forecasting terrible weather today and a pleasant surprise for Tuesday

You likely woke up to all the markings of a dismal day— sleet, snow, cold — but don’t worry. The sun will literally come out tomorrow.

Today’s forecast courtesy of Environment Canada:

In Penticton it will be mainly cloudy then there will be periods of snow mixed with rain. Expect two centimetres of snow.

In Kelowna the snow will end this afternoon then clear the way for more snow mixed with rain early this afternoon. Expect somewhere between two to four centimetres.

In Salmon Arm snow will be ending near noon then clearing. There will be two to four centimetres of snow, over all.

In Vernon the snow will end this afternoon then clear the way for more snow mixed with rain early this afternoon. Expect somewhere between two to four centimetres.

Tonight: The average temperature around the valley is -7 C.

Will the sun come out tomorrow? Yes! It’s going to be a sunny 7 C day on Wednesday.

On the roads:. There is a snowfall warning in effect for Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. Snowfall with total amounts of about 20 centimetres is expected.

An approaching frontal system will track across the southern interior tonight. Snow at times heavy will begin this evening and persist through Tuesday. Snowfall amounts up to 20 cm can be expected by Tuesday evening.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Fun fact:

Ever noticed fun formations on the lake.

Prolonged sub-zero temperatures have helped form natural sculptures on frozen lake shores. A gust of wind whips up the waves causing them to sprout from the ice volcanoes, like in the photo taken by Douglas Drouin above.
