Oliver Fire Department extinguishes weekend fire at landfill

The fire was thankfully contained to a small area despite gusty winds

A compost pile at the Oliver landfill caught fire on Saturday, Aug. 27, but the local fire department put it out before it could spread.

According to the Oliver FD, crews responded in the early morning to the Oliver landfill.

A compost pile had caught fire, but was contained to a small area.

According to an Oliver Fire spokesperson, the fire could have been much worse due to the gusting winds in the area.
