With temperatures expected to climb over the coming days, the Town of Osoyoos will be opening cooling centres to the public.

The centers will be opened at the Sonora Community Center at 8505 68 Avenue and at the Sun Bowl Arena at 9301 Hummingbird Lane.

The Sonora will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the week, and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Sun Bowl will be open from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. every day, starting July 25.

Temperatures across the South Okanagan are expected to hit anywhere from 35 Celsius to 38 C.

The town of Osoyoos has also noted that the splash park on 89th Street and Kingfisher as well as local beaches can also provide ways to cool off during the heat wave.

Extreme heat can cause illness to people of all ages, and before going outside people should have a heat plan with ways to cool down and stay hydrated.
