By order of the Fire Chief, there will be no campfires within the City of Penticton boundaries, effective July 29 at 4 p.m. until further notice. This order is in alignment with fire danger class now being extreme in the South Okanagan.

The fire ban does not include Underwriters Laboratories of Canada rated gas appliances like propane fires.

Last year, Penticton enacted the campfire ban on June 28 because of the heat dome.

BC Wildfire has asked people to be extra cautious in the backcountry this B.C. Day long weekend but they haven’t issued a campfire ban for the Kamloops Fire Centre which encompasses Kamloops, Central and South Okanagan as well as Merritt.
