You can no longer access Cherry Lane mall through Atkinson Street as bike lane work begins in that area.

Construction of the Lake-to-Lake bike route has shifted to the section of Atkinson Street between Warren Avenue and Kinney Avenue which may impact the way you get to the mall.

This stretch of road is only open to local traffic, with work expected to continue along Atkinson and Kinney until mid-September. Atkinson is a common way to drive to the mall.

If you are visiting or heading to the shopping centre, consider using the entrances off Main Street and onto Warren Avenue, said the city in a press release.

Road closures or single-lane alternating traffic along Atkinson Street and Kinney Avenue will take place in the coming weeks, with the majority of work expected to be completed by approximately Sept. 10.

Due to the intermittent closures on Kinney Avenue, the easiest way to access the western parking lot behind The Bay and London Drugs is to enter off Warren Avenue.

Construction work is proceeding on schedule and is expected to be complete by October.

In addition to the new bike lane, a storm water management system has been installed, enhanced lighting is being added along the entire corridor of Atkinson Street and improvements to sidewalks and concrete will provide increased safety for all users, said the city.

Once this work is complete, the final milestone in this section of the project will involve construction on Duncan Avenue between Fairview Road and Main Street including upgrades to the intersection at Duncan Avenue and Atkinson Street. This work is expected to begin in early September. More information about the impacts to traffic on Duncan Avenue will be provided in advance of construction.
