Work on the Lake-to-Lake Bike Route in Penticton will be closing down Atkinson Street including the Atkinson Street Bridge.
Construction on the Atkinson Street section, running from Industrial Avenue over to Kinney Avenue, is expected to last until August.
In addition to the bike-lane work, the city is also installing a stormwater management system along Atkinson Street between Industrial Avenue and Warren Avenue to help reduce the risk of localized flooding in the area.
While work is ongoing, traffic is expected to be reduced to single alternating lanes.
Construction will start with milling and concrete work, before moving onto surface work and the installation new lighting and pedestrian crossing improvements.
Following the Atkinson Street work, construction will move along Kinney Avenue to McKenzie Street with repaving, concrete work, bike lane barrier installations, lighting upgrades and stormwater infrastructure.
In September, work is expected to begin and be completed along Duncan Avenue between Fairview Road and Main Street. This work will see traffic signals installed at the intersection with Atkinson Street among other improvements.
