Bulky item pickup takes place in Penticton the week of April 1 to 5.
Common items residents kick to the curb during bulky item include furniture, appliances (such as refrigerators, stoves), exercise equipment and mattresses. The maximum allowable weight per item is 90 kilograms (200 pounds).
Items not accepted are objects with gas motors, televisions and hot water tanks as well as renovation waste such as toilets, plumbing fixtures and doors. Small appliances and electronics will not be collected, but they can be dropped off for free at J&C Bottle Depot at 200 Rosetown Avenue, or at Campbell Mountain Landfill at 1765 Reservoir Road.
Residents are able to dispose of two large or bulky items on their regular garbage day that week. The items must at the usual collection point by 7 a.m.
Residents are asked to create a minimum of one meter (three-feet) space between your carts and bulky items, as a separate truck collects oversized material.
“The large and bulky item collection event helps residents get their unwanted furniture or broken appliance to the landfill for disposal or recycling,” said David Kassian, community sustainability coordinator. “On your regular garbage day, place the items at your usual collection point and we will make sure they get disposed of properly.”
Multifamily buildings are not eligible to participate in the large and bulky item collection.
