Penticton firefighters are on the scene of a house fire off Fairview Road.

The fire, in the basement of the Cossar Avenue home, had only a trickle of smoke showing from the outside.

A firefighter on the scene described the fire as “well-seated.” Observers at the scene say there doesn’t appear to be any immediate danger to neighbouring houses and firefighters have the street blocked off, with two trucks in attendance.

Captain Dennis Smith said confirmed there was a fire in the basement, and they have it contained.

One older man was living in the home, but got out safely and was being looked after by paramedics. Emergency social services have also been called.

Smith said it is too early to determine the cause of the fire.
