Penticton Fire Dept. extinguish abandoned utility trailer near homes

The cause of the fire is currently unkown

Update 5:20 pm:

The Penticton Fire Department extinguished a utility trailer that caught fire near Skaha Lake Road Monday (Sept. 21) afternoon. The trailer was being used to store construction waste, according to Penticton Fire Department Capt. Erik Jorgensen.

When crews arrived on scene the trailer was up against a tree. Fire crews were able to remove the trailer from the tree with the help of bystanders, who had noticed the smoke from the nearby trailer park. It is believed that the trailer was abandoned in the woods, said Jorgensen.

Jorgensen said the fire could have been much worse had it spread. “Our danger rating is still a four, which is very dangerous, and we got a south wind blowing and we’re in a field full of dry grass with a trailer park to the south of it, so there was definitely some potential,” he said.

Fire crews and the RCMP investigated the fire collaboratively. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined. No injuries were reported.
