Quick response from the Penticton fire department saved a small blaze in a shed from spreading to a neighbouring motel said witnesses.
Fire department officials are investigating the cause of the blaze that happened Tuesday night in a shed behind the Swiss Sunset Inn on Skaha Lake Road.
"There was damage to a metal shed, the fence and the side of the motel. Our crews managed to stop it before it got in. It could have been a lot worse, yes," said Penticton fire chief Wayne Williams.
A vinyl shed was completely destroyed in the fire and there was smoke damage to a few units in the motel. No one had to be evacuated.
"We are working on a couple of theories right now. One is a possible faulty lightbulb that may have caught fire and fell into a pile of leaves," said Williams.
Crews called it a second alarm bringing two trucks and 16 firefighters to the scene which broke out around 10:57 p.m. The fire was knocked down and mopped up within a few hours.
One witness said the fire was mainly contained to shed that housed tools and outdoor equipment used by the Swiss Sunset Inn.
"The firefighters came just at the right time," said the witness who preferred their name not be used.
