Penticton is set to get its 12th marijuana store.
Council gave their unanimous approval to send their support for the business to the B.C. Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch.
“For the first time I’m supporting this,” said Mayor John Vassilaki. “Everybody has the right to open their own business of any kind, it’s finally sunk in.”
The new store would be located at 1652 Fairview Road, and run by Sticky Leaf Cannabis Corp.
It marks the 12th cannabis retailer to get approval from the city’s council since April 2019. Out of the 11 previously supported businesses on city land, nine are open and operational.

Currently, the city has a mandated 14 store limit for cannabis retailers within city limits.
The city hosted a public comment period from June 11, 2021 to June 29, and received no correspondence from the public regarding the proposal.
That public notice included letters mailed out to nearby residents and businesses, as well as a large sign placed outside the mall complex where the store will be located.
Sticky Leaf’s location is next door to the site of a previously approved cannabis retailer, the Fairview Cannabis Corner, which has not yet opened and was approved on June 18, 2019.
When staff brought forward the proposal to council, they noted that Fairview Cannabis Corner was still planning to open soon and that there was no current bylaw or restriction on buffer zones between cannabis shops.
