Penticton Legion investigation will take months

It will likely take until September for a trustee to conclude his investigation into allegations of mismanagement at the Penticton Legion.

It will likely take until September for a trustee to conclude his investigation into allegations of mismanagement at the Penticton Legion.

Ed Findlater from the Okanagan Falls branch has been appointed to review the inner workings of the Penticton site and report back to its members and Legion brass. He said he expects the job will take at least three months.

In the meantime, the Legion is still open, although its 12-member executive remains suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

B.C. Yukon Command issued a press release following a general meeting at the branch Friday that stated Findlater will look into “allegations of non-compliance to Legion general bylaws ... liquor licensing breaches, financial mismanagement and lotteries inventory control issues.”

“Through this process of investigation, review and trusteeship, our plan is to ensure the Legion’s presence remains a significant community service,” the release continued.

Meanwhile, the deposed executives have been warned against speaking publicly. They were told by letter that “any inflammatory, incorrect statements or proprietary information released ... to the media or in a public forum could put you at risk of a civil liability suit.”
