A Penticton man led police on a chase from Merritt to Kamloops on Tuesday morning.

Cpl. Wayne Chung of the Kamloops RCMP said a tire deflation device had to be deployed in order to disable the vehicle the 29-year-old man was driving. Charges of flight from police, dangerous driving and possession of stolen property are pending against the man who has not been named.

Mounties were on the lookout for a pickup truck, which further investigation revealed it had been stolen and recently been involved in a police pursuit in Merritt. The vehicle was last reported to be travelling north on Highway 5 towards Kamloops.

Chung said officers located the vehicle on Highway 5, however it failed to stop for the RCMP emergency lights. After the truck was disabled, Chung said the driver abandoned it and fled on foot.

With the assistance of the Police Dog Service the suspect driver was apprehended.
