A nuisance fire set in some bushes was put out quickly by neighbours followed by the Penticton fire department on Thursday evening.
Firefighters were called out around 4:45 p.m. to Atkinson and Industrial Avenue for the minor nuisance fire that was started in the bushes.
“It caught the bushes on fire and the residents here did a good job knocking it down,” said Penticton fire captain Chad Taylor.
When fire crews arrived they mopped it up and checked for hot spots.
The fire was close to residential homes and industrial buildings so the potential was there for the blaze to spread without the fast actions of the neighbours, said Taylor.
It appears the fire was lit in some materials beside the bush and adjacent fence.
“We do get quite a bit of these nuisance or unknown fires,” said Taylor.
