A Penticton taxi driver was stabbed in the shoulder by one of his passengers in a robbery early Friday morning.
Jared Heath Agar, a 29-year-old Penticton resident, has been charged with robbery and assault with a weapon and remains in custody in relation to this incident. The same charges are being recommended against a 48-year-old Penticton woman who was released from custody for a court appearance on March 2.
Just after 1 a.m. on Friday the 35-year-old driver with Penticton Taxi picked up a man and woman waiting at a gas station located at Main Street and Carmi Avenue. The passengers requested to be driven to Sun Leisure Mobile Home park. As they got closer they asked to be dropped off at the south gate of the parking lot near the Okanagan River Channel.
“As the driver pulled up to the south gate, the male passenger advised the driver he was being robbed and pulled a knife. The driver picked up his radio microphone to advise his dispatch to call the police. The male passenger cut the microphone cord, making communication impossible,” said Sgt. Rick Dellebuur.
Police said the driver got out of the cab and ran in an attempt to escape, but Agar allegedly chased him down and stabbed him in the shoulder. The driver suffered a non-life threatening injury and was treated at Penticton Regional Hospital and released.
