A Penticton teen allegedly wandering around Vernon with weapons, including a butcher's cleaver, was arrested in the early morning hours of June 2.
The Vernon police officer wondered why, on the second day of June, a teenager was walking downtown wearing a heavy winter coat.
The officer was doing patrols in the area of the downtown Safeway just after midnight Monday when he noticed two males on foot. One of the individuals was wearing the winter jacket and a white bandana over his chin.
“When the officer spoke to him, he appeared to be concealing something in his jacket,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
And the suspect allegedly had more than one thing concealed under the coat.
After detaining the male for possible possession of a weapon, the officer, while conducting his investigation, discovered a small bat wrapped in electrical tape, a butcher’s cleaver, a hunting knife, a small hammer and mace.
“Further investigation learned that this young man is on an 11 p.m. curfew and is not to possess any weapons,” said Molendyk.
The 16-year-old has been held in custody and was expected to appear in Vernon Provincial Court Monday.
