The Downtown Penticton BIA is keeping it local and casual by hosting an election forum right in a neighbourhood brewery.

Meet and get to know your 2022 Penticton mayoral and council candidates at an open information session on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the upstairs section of Neighbourhood Brewing, located at 187 Westminster Ave W.

The candidates will each have three minutes at the podium to talk about their plan and campaign. After that, we will move into an open house format where attendees can directly interact with each candidate.

“Not everyone will want to go to the Seniors Centre to hear from their candidates so we wanted to give an opportunity for the younger residents to get engaged in the process,” said DPBIA president Brett Turner.

“It’s a really casual forum in a great setting,” he added.

A growing number of working professionals between the ages of 31 to 44 are moving to Penticton, many of whom have children, according to new data collected by the city.

Of the 300 new residents who moved here between January and July, the greatest majority relocated from Vancouver/Lower Mainland for a job, with remote working also showing strong growth.

Turner himself is a young father of two, while Slackwater Brewing’s Liam Peyton has twins. Both moved from Vancouver to Penticton. Many other businesses, including coffee shop and restaurant owners throughout Penticton have children with young families. Decisions made by city council directly impact them and their businesses, pointed out Turner.

The DPBIA is asking that you let them know if you are coming by Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. to ensure we supply enough food for the evening. RSVP by calling us at 250-493-8540 or send an email with the particulars for each attendee (name, business/commercial property name, phone number and email address).
