Penticton water fight cancelled so firefighters could battle apartment fire

The water fight was going to take place at 6:30 p.m. at the SOEC.

Tonight‘s water fight with the Penticton firefighters is cancelled while the fight the apartment fire in downtown Penticton. The water fight was supposed to take place at 6:30 p.m. at the South Okanagan Events Centre parking lot.

The water fight on Monday night was a huge success with firefighters cooling young and old off with their water hoses.

The blaze at the three-storey apartment building was reported just after 5 p.m. Within 20 minutes, flames and black smoke began billowing from the apartment. The flames are currently coming from the second and third floor as well as through the roof.

Residents have been evacuated and are watching on as the Penticton Fire Department tries to get a handle on the blaze in the scorching heat.

It appears the fire is under control but the roof is mostly gone from the building.
