A woman living in the 800 block of Fairview Road received a rude awakening in the early hours of June 21.

Penticton RCMP said the woman was stirred awake at 3:30 a.m. and she found a person wearing dark clothing in her living room. The intruder grabbed her purse and ran out of the patio door, which had been left unlocked. RCMP said the matter remains under investigation.

A day earlier, on June 20, RCMP received a report of a break and enter in the 2300 block of Mackenzie Street.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth said an insecure window on a garage was entered and numerous food items and a pellet gun were stolen. The residents’ vehicle had been tampered with in an attempt to steal it.

Wrigglesworth said forensic examination of the scene resulted in evidence linking a known individual to the scene. The male was identified by RCMP through a neighbour’s security video and had been arrested already on unrelated matters. The man was found in possession of items from the alleged break and enter including beer, eggs and yogurt.

The male is currently in custody.
