Penticton’s Community Centre fitness room will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 20 with increased health and safety protocols in place, the city announced.

The fitness room closed on Dec. 22 along with all private fitness gyms as a result of Provincial Health Orders and the province’s response to COVID-19 and the surge of the Omicron variant.

It was also at that time when Penticton’s community centre announced the cancellation of various fitness classes until at least Jan. 18.

With the reopening of the fitness room on Thursday at 6 a.m., various classes will now resume.

As part of Wednesday’s announcement, the city issued a number of reminders to people.

Anyone over the age of 12 must show proof of vaccination to enter the fitness room and masks are to be worn at all times, except when actively exercising.

Adult recreation programs are also set to resume on Thursday.

The B.C. government’s health and safety measures before Christmas required gyms to close.

Gyms across the province and here in Penticton are allowed to reopen on Jan. 20 as per the government’s latest COVID-19-related announcement on Jan. 18.
