This Halloween, safe practices extend beyond gathering candy as the Penticton Fire Department reminds residents to be aware of the city’s fireworks’ bylaws.
As part of the city’s Fire and Life Safety Bylaw, a permit from the Penticton Fire Department is required to put on a fireworks display.
It is illegal to sell, manufacture or discharge fireworks without a permit.
The fire department is also reminding the community that untrained handling of fireworks can potentially result in injuries. At this time of year, children should be reminded that fireworks are not toys or safe to pick up.
Children should be taught that if they find fireworks, they should leave them on the ground and report them to an adult.
