Have you received a phone call looking for donations to a school healthy kids program?

Hang up, it’s a fraud.

RCMP in Osoyoos said they have been made aware of a telemarketing scam targeting area residents.

“School District 53 notified police when they heard an individual was making phone calls to local residents requesting donations for the Osoyoos High School Healthy Kids Program. School administrators confirmed they are not actively seeking donations for this program and that it was a scam,” said Const. James Grandy, media relations officer for the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen regional detachment.

RCMP investigation revealed the same phone number making these calls is associated to several other different scams. Grandy warns the public to be careful when considering providing payment for anyone calling to ask for donations.
