Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a North Westside bush party Sept. 28, 2024. Police found that an assault took place but a weapon was not involved.

A bush party that turned violent last weekend drew response from police.

Officers received a third-party report of an assault with a weapon at the bush party around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, Cpl. Tania Finn of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said.

"Frontline officers located the victim at a nearby residence and confirmed an altercation had occurred between the victim and unknown persons at the party," Finn said.

While the initial report was that a weapon had been involved, the victim told police that no weapons were used or produced during the assault. Numerous witnesses were interviewed by police and all confirmed that no weapons were seen.

None of the of the witnesses knew the identity of the suspect, Finn said.

The victim was uninjured and did not wish to proceed with an investigation.
