Multiple bike thefts have occurred and one man has been arrested, prompting police to remind citizens that keeping a record of your serial number can help get the bike returned.

May 17 numerous bike thefts occured including a Kona Blast mountain bike which was locked up on Main Street before it was stolen.

Three black Kona Blast mountain bikes were also stolen out of the garage of the Penticton Hostel. One man was located sometime during the evening of May 17 on a stolen bike and arrested for possession of stolen property, after giving police officers the finger, RCMP said. The man was suspected to be intoxicated and was held in cells before getting released on a promise to appear in court.

“Police would like to remind owners of bicycles, boats, anything that has a serial number, record the serial number. Everybody has a cell phone, take a picture of it,” said Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth with the Penticton RCMP. “If you report your bike stolen to the police we are able to identify through the serial number that’s engraved on the frame of the bike. It really helps us out and we do get bikes back to owners.”

A bike was stolen May 18 from the 1700 block of Main Street during the day. A blue and silver Trek Fuel mountain bike. Overnight May 18 a blue/black Norco Fluid mountain bike was stolen from a backyard on Maple Street and a serial number has been provided to police.

A white Cannonade Hybrid bike was stolen from Penticton Avenue on May 19, and two were recovered by police that day as well. Though RCMP said they could not confirm which bikes were recovered.
