BC Parks has reopened of a portion of Tsútswecw Park spared by the Bush Creek East wildfire when it blazed through the North Shuswap.
Last month, BC Parks announced the reopened portion includes the trails and forested areas southeast of the main plaza and parking area. Access is via the eastern beach road, dependent on weather conditions.
“Wildfire hazards persist in fire-affected areas of the park, in particular westerly of the plaza parking lot, and these areas remain closed to public access,” reads a BC Parks update. “Danger trees, landslides, rock falls, damaged trails, increased water runoff, flooding, and damaged facilities can be expected.”
The news was well received by the Adams River Salmon Society, which runs the interpretive centre at the plaza and oversees the famous Salute to the Sockeye celebrations during the annual salmon run.
“We look forward to welcoming many back in coming weeks as we look ahead to April for Earth Day 2024,” said the society in a related post on its Facebook page.
BC Parks said repair projects would begin in the spring, when a “further determination of full reopening dates will occur.”
