A report outlining the proposed framework for introducing retail sales of cannabis within the City of Penticton is scheduled to appear before council on Nov. 20.

“If council supports the proposed framework, we will be in a position to initiate the regulatory process for the amendments to the zoning bylaw and changes to other bylaws and policies,” said planning manager, Blake Laven. “This work needs to occur before the city can consider the applications for storefronts referred to us by the province.”

Since the licensing portal was opened, the city has received four referrals for private retail stores and one government-owned store, however, the city said arrival of storefront locations is still several months away.

While work on the framework and regulations proceeds, the city is reminding residents that cannabis, including dry, oil, pre-rolled, bottles, drops and high-CBD products, can be purchased online at www.bccannabisstores.com.

A list of licensed retailers can also be found at the Liquor & Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) website.
