Penticton’s Abandonded Rail Brewery is inviting people to celebrate the spooky season with them and to help raise some funds at the same time.

The craft brewery has more than 100 Pumpkins and Pints that they are selling as part of a fundraiser.

Whether the pumpkin is bought to carve up or just to take home, the full proceeds from the pumpkin sales going to support Big Brother Big Sister of the Southern Interior.

“It’s a good excuse to bring the family up to the brewery and hang out, and carve the pumpkin or pick one up to take home,” said Josh Brooks, the manager of the brewery’s taproom.

The idea for the fundraiser came out of several ideas, with pumpkin carving the most accessible and family-friendly.

On Sunday, Oct. 16 there will be a whole day for the pumkpins, the launch of the brewery’s three latest beers and live music starting at 3 p.m.

Local singer-songwriter Colby Ramsay will be performing on Sunday while the pumpkins are carved and pints are served.

Through the day photos of the pumpkins will be taken as their carved to be put up on a wall for people to vote on their favourite.

The choice of Big Brother Big Sister was another part of the family focus for the event.

“We have a big bin and pumpkins are scattered through the orchard so you can wander around with the kids and find one that calls your name,” said Brooks.

After Halloween, the brewery is also looking to have a fun way to keep things sustainable with another possible event where the pumpkins will get launched out into the field. That event is still in the early stages of planning.
