The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen is changing the cost recovery method for it mosquito control service.
Under the change, the rate for this service will not exceed $181,000 or $0.00645 per $1,00 of net taxable value of land and improvements.
However, before the bylaw is adopted, the board is seeking feedback from electors.
A bylaw amending the mosquito control service establishment bylaw was given first three readings at the regional district’s board meeting on April 21. The new method, if adopted, will see all residents share the cost of service based on the same mill rate.
In order to pass this bylaw, the regional district is going through an alternative approval process. There are 71,964 eligible electors within the regional district. If 10 per cent, or 7,196 speak out against it, the regional district must go to a referendum.
The deadline for elector responses is Friday, June 15 at 4:30 p.m.
