There are reports of an aggressive deer around the Atkinson Street and Okanagan Avenue area in Penticton.
In a press release, the city urged people to be cautious when walking in that area, to keep dogs on a leash and to not approach the deer.
With fawning season now underway, female deer will be more assertive over the next two months.
Female deer can be very protective of their young and have been known to attack both pets and people. Keep pets away and give deer a wide berth.
Also, does will hide their fawns in order to feed and re-hydrate, so it is important not to approach what appears to be an abandoned fawn.
If you are concerned that a fawn has been truly abandoned contact the conservation officer service at 1-877-952-7277.
Do not approach the fawn(s) or try to interfere. It is illegal to capture wildlife without a permit and you may potentially cause more harm by trying to intervene.
