The City of Revelstoke has a new director of community economic development.
Ryan Watmough was recently named to the position starting on September 9. Watmough previously worked with Simon Fraser University's Faculty of Environment. In this role, he directed the Community Economic Development (CED) certificate program.
Watmough comes to the city with 20 years of project and program experience, which includes consulting for the Columbia Valley CED, and has held the position of executive director for the Golden and District Community Foundation.
In a press release from the city, staff and council said that they are excited to see how Watmough's experience helps enhance economic growth within our community.
“I consider this the pinnacle of CED roles in Canada – if not the world. The role allows me to contribute meaningfully to a community I deeply admire, ensuring that Revelstoke continues to thrive in a sustainable, inclusive way...," said Watmough.
Watmough further said he loves that the City values community when it comes to economic development.
"While investors from around the world want to maximize their return, I want to make sure that the community does well first,” said Watmough.
