With a number of art galleries located in Downtown Penticton, there was no better way to bring attention to them, than to celebrate art in all of its forms Saturday.

That is the idea behind the Arts Rising Festival. Bringing together food, music, storytelling, and the more commonly considered conventional forms of art such as painting and sculpting.

“I think it’s important in our community to really encourage people with the arts,” said Laurel Burnham, organizer of the Penticton Festival. “Arts are a way of us seeing the world in a different way, of making the days brighter, and inspiring people.”

The Festival started off on Friday afternoon with a sculpture walk, a guided tour of the art installations downtown and along the beachfront. The evening saw the start of the Art Walk, with the galleries downtown open with live music, food, and artists working on their latest pieces.

Saturday saw the focus turn from the painters and sculptors of the community to the local musicians. The Music Walk kicked off with Ari Neufeld performing at the People’s Soda Co. and continued through the downtown core.

“The response has been excellent, and it’s all engaging, for all of our local performers,” said Burnham. “We can celebrate our community, our creative community, in all the ways we can, and this festival is just one of them.”
