Snowfall warning between Merritt and Hope

As much as 20 centimteres of the white stuff is expected along a stretch of the Coquhialla

As much as 20 centimetres of snow is expected today on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt, prompting Environment Canada to issue a snowfall warning.

A slow moving frontal system is expected move through the Southwest Interior this afternoon and then across the Kootenays tonight. The storm will give significant snow to the highway passes.

According to Enviroment Canada, light snow on the Coquihalla Summit will become heavier late this afternoon and continue into this evening. The snow is expected to ease near midnight. Total snow amounts of 15 to 25 cm can be expected by early Monday morning.

On Rogers Pass, intermittent flurries will intensify this afternoon. 10 cm can be expected during the afternoon with an additional 10 cm tonight.

The snow should taper off on Monday morning as the system moves into Alberta.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
